arthDawn is a game of dark exploration and fantastic journeys. The caers and caves are littered with bygone civiliations and treasures waiting for intrepid adventurers, but they are frequently guarded or even polluted by the Horrors. Intra-planar beings feeding on the unsuspecting, they made their way to the land of Barsaive by taking advantage of the natural ebb and flow of magic. But what are Horrors?

hen marked by a Horror, a Namegiver may be unaware of the impact, or even it's impact. A mark is a Horror’s personal gateway to a character; the Horror may use the gateway any time it wishes, though range may restrict a Horror’s options. Horrors may use the mark to locate their victim at any time. Many Horrors have ways of communicating with marked victims who are hundreds of miles away, and some can cast spells on their victims from a great distance. A Horror Mark lasts for a year and a day.

s in the case of dragons, not every Horror has every Horror power. Some are terrible to behold, and may wait long periods of time to unleash their terrible powers, while others are little more than brainless chewers of matter. Some are named, and ancient, and powerful. Some are so formidable as to feed on dragons. Others feed on the pain and misery of others. All are deserving of caution. But the land will not be rid of them by simply running away at the first sight or mention of them. Bold Namegivers are needed to confront them, and those that survive may find untold wealth and power from the treasures of Earthdawn.
